Coach Juls
I - yes I, Coach Juls - never set out to be a trainer nor a health coach. Physical training and health coaching sought me at a time in my life where I needed disciplined action as a means of therapeutic survival during a period of massive adversity and transition in my late 20’s. I have always had an affinity and love for humanity, teaching, sport, athleticism and artistic movement since a youth: soccer and gymnastics and poetry being my first loves. Yet shadows of great trauma, mental health instability woven throughout my familial history, abuse, addiction and a profound timeline of dis-ease marked the greater part of my early life.
Blessed by an ex-partner in the medical field and a good friend who was embarking on his own journey as a calisthenics bodyweight trainer, my mind became illuminated to the fact that physical training + mental health and the corrupt mental and physical health industry are key components that need to be understood in the modern era in order to achieve great health. That an independent Way of Health is of utmost importance.
Fast forward. I have been personal training and small group coaching since 2019. My athletes have ranged from ages 10 through 80 years young with a variety of abilities and issues. It is my absolute belief that anyone can achieve an optimal state of Health and Being at any given moment, given the proper attitude and mindset - allowing themselves the freedom of movement and self-belief.
Educating and coaching is in my blood. My father was a masterful Mathematics teacher and soccer coach, and from him I have learned much. I’ve spent thousands of hours researching, studying, planning, programming, experimenting and coaching with respect to physicality, mindset, discipline + freedom, understanding human behavior and stress responses. I have learned about the human experience through self-practice, coaching relationships, observation, listening, interviewing and studying some of the greatest minds which all intersect in the spaces of professional sport, physiology, neuroscience, biology, epigenetics, psychology, general holistic health, emotional intelligence, occupational health and medicine.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree of Education from Temple U in Education, 1.5 years of Master’s Courses in Occupational Therapy from Philadelphia U, continued and current education in Tony Blauer’s SPEAR System and a Personal Trainer certification through ACE. I train diligently on a daily basis, always searching for that creative space to better understand movement and the mind. On the links and references page, you will find the coaches, practitioners and articles/books that have influenced my thinking and helped me to sharpen my skill and mindset. And in the photos on this page, are my greatest teachers: my athletes.
Thank you for taking the time to read about me. My style of coaching and training has one main goal tied to it for you, whether we spend 1 month or years working with one another:
It’s always You vs You. Own it.
